It’s been a while since Natalie and I participated in a wedding fair, but what an incredible experience it was!

The Wedding Experience reached out to us, inviting us to work our hair magic on their models for the fashion show in exchange for a stand at the fair. Since this was our big return to luxury bridal hair, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to reintroduce ourselves to the world of bridal hairstyling.

The week leading up to the show was a whirlwind of preparation. I wanted to create five head blocks (doll heads) with different hair designs to showcase the diversity of my work. I thought this would be a great way for potential brides to see the variety of styles I can create.

After discussing plans with Natalie, my brilliant PA, we decided she would also model for the stand. Fun fact: I did Natalie’s hair for her wedding eight years ago at The Old Kent Barn! To add an Avant Garde Bridal hair look, I asked my beautiful sister Jacey to model as well, and she thankfully obliged .

The biggest challenge we faced was timing on the morning of the event. I live in Canterbury, and the fair was at the Detling Showground in Kent, about half an hour away. The Wedding Experience team needed us there bright and early to start styling the models at 7:30 am for the 10:30 am opening. This left little time to prep both the stand and our own models.

To make it work, Natalie arrived at my house at 5 am so I could recreate her bridal hairstyle from eight years ago. She looked as stunning as ever! Meanwhile, my lovely sister Jacey and Natalie worked together to set up the stand while I styled the models’ hair for the catwalk.

Once I finished with the models, I was blown away by what Jacey and Natalie had achieved with the stand—it looked absolutely perfect! My head blocks, prepped with the diverse hairstyles, were beautifully displayed with lights, and my TV monitors showcased a slideshow of my hair creations. The stand looked awesome!

Natalie wore her wedding dress, and it fitted her perfectly. She looked absolutely radiant, just as she did on her wedding day. For Jacey, I wanted to create an Avant Garde bridal hair look. Since I couldn’t get hold of another wedding dress, I found a bridal jumpsuit on Vinted with a cool 70s vibe. It inspired me to create a glitzy, Avant Garde Bridal 70s ponytail hairstyle.

To achieve the look, I added Balmain Hair extension pieces and wrapped a silver diamond chain through the ponytail for height and shape. I also added a clip-in fringe to create a bold 70s-inspired bang effect. The entire process took a couple of hours, but the result was worth it—Jacey looked absolutely incredible and rocked the Avant Garde bridal hair look!

Throughout the day, Natalie kept potential brides and their families entertained, while many watched me work on Jacey’s hairstyle, waiting to see the final masterpiece. Once it was complete, Jacey turned heads everywhere she went. Both Jacey and Natalie became showstoppers at the fair, with countless people stopping them to ask about their hair and bridal outfits.

It felt wonderful to be back in the bridal world again—catching up with old suppliers I hadn’t seen in years and chatting with potential brides. It’s true what they say: once you’ve learned something, you never forget it. The passion for bridal hairstyling came flooding back, stronger than ever!
