Let’s talk… sex, cuts and blow-dries: Choosing the chair instead of the closet

A multi-award winning hairstylist’s memoir about sexuality, relationships, and self-discovery… that’s me! I love talking about sex, giving sex advice, and embracing my own sexuality—including all the corners and curves that I’ve had to navigate inside and outside of the closet. Over the three decades I’ve been in the hair business, sex has remained the hottest topic with my clients, and I’ve naturally stepped into the role of an unofficial sex coach of sorts. No, I’m not a trained or qualified therapist (although it could be on the cards)—but some conversations simply require experience and consent to discuss. And I’m happy to give those who desire—what I like to call… ‘the Vicki Lord prescription’—sunflowers, lemon drizzle cake, and (on occasion) a vibrator. My mission is to coach and empower women and other genders to connect with their inner sexual selves and embrace their desires with confidence and joy.

Most of my clients are female, and I’m female—who now only has sex with females, so it’s a given that most of the conversations are focused on the female world of sex and self-discovery… But trust me, self-discovery is an important aspect of everyone’s life, so let’s keep on having those conversations. This exciting memoir includes some sensitive topics, but these are all part of the self-discovery journey.

This memoir includes snippets of my life that are the chain links of a circle of circumstances with blurred boundaries. I am full circle now and it’s time to break the chain of events that have kept me either inside the closet away from my crave for women, or inside toxic relationships with the very women I’ve lusted over from the crack in the closet doors.

So yes, there is sex, but more sexuality. Yes, there are cuts, but rather than cutting hair, I share the symbolic cuts of my circumstances. Yes, there are blow-dries, but no blowing hot air… because the stories inside these pages are my experiences, my expression, and a little explicit. Turned on yet? You will be!

Spoiler: ‘The Vicki Lord Slow and Low Manuscript’ at the end is worth waiting for and will have you and your partner weeping between the sheets.
